Achterhoek and Bronckhorst
Cycling through an ancient cultural landscape of flowering meadows, monumental farms, forests, hedgerows, and winding country roads.

The Landscape
The stunning nature of the Achterhoek landscape is a legacy of an ancient farming culture. Through small-scale farming, an idyllic scene was created, with monumental farms, expansive meadows, centuries-old trees, and winding paths. The meadows are bordered by hedgerows, bushes, and tall, ancient trees. Between the fields and flower-filled grasslands, you often discover quiet estates, stately manors, babbling brooks, and dusty sand paths.
In Bronckhorst, you’ll find a charming landscape where forests, small fields, and water alternate with one another. Castles and centuries-old estates are scattered across the picturesque rolling countryside, silent witnesses of days gone by. The many winding streams and ancient watermills tell stories from the past, where water was of great importance to both nature and the people who lived here.
