North Limburg between Peel and Maas
Cycling in a versatile landscape with country estates, old peat pits, forests, moorland and fens.
The Landscape
Located between the Peel in the west and the river Maas in the east, we find a varied landscape around Venray with beautiful nature reserves, farmlands and beautiful river and stream valleys. A landscape that originated from the last ice ages and has been shaped over the centuries by the Maas and man. This has resulted in a nonstop alternation of landscapes. Traces of the Second World War are still visible everywhere in the area. The Battle of Overloon has gone down in history as the only tank battle that took place on Dutch territory during Allied liberation operations in 1944. The current war museum is located on part of the battlefield. During opening hours you can cycle through the museum via a bicycle bridge. Near Ysselsteyn is the largest German war cemetery in the world. More than 31,700 mainly German soldiers are buried here on an area of 28 hectares.
