Northeast Veluwe and IJssel Valley
Cycle through a varied landscape of forests, heathlands, drifting sands, river plains, oxbow lakes, and grand country estates.

The Landscape
The northeastern part of the Veluwe is a lesser-known area of the region, far from the crowds. Here, you'll find a vast expanse of space, tranquility, and pristine nature. Thousands of hectares are accessible to cyclists and walkers who wish to enjoy expansive forests, quiet paths, and rolling heathlands. At the heart of this area lie the heathlands of Oldebroek, which have served as a military training ground for the Dutch army's artillery since the 19th century.
To the north, a peaceful farming landscape unfolds, with historic farms and ancient trade routes once traveled by Hanseatic merchants from Germany. In the east, a beautiful transition area stretches between hills and floodplains, with stately estates and wide views over meadows, tranquil oxbow lakes, and the meandering IJssel River. To the south and west, an expansive forest takes over the landscape, with colorful heathlands, drifting sand dunes, and babbling streams.
