The Landscape

Between the Veluwe and the Sallandse Heuvelrug lies Southwest Salland, a diverse and historically significant area. This verdant region is characterized by expansive estates, authentic farmhouses, ancient forests, and fertile farmlands. The stately manor houses on the estates are often surrounded by beautiful park forests designed in the English landscape style.

From the drier sandy soils with forests, meadows, and cornfields, the landscape gently transitions into the rugged river landscape of the IJssel Valley. Along the banks of the IJssel, the dynamic nature of the river is clearly visible. Floodplain forests, river dunes, flower-rich grasslands, oxbow lakes, channels, and wild thickets, combined with the meandering IJssel, create a robust and vibrant natural environment perfect for enjoying to the fullest.
