Salland between Vecht and IJssel
Cycling in a versatile landscape with country estates, forests, heathland, stream valleys, farmlands and rivers.
The Landscape
The landscape of Salland between the IJssel and the Vecht largely consists of a mosaic of wooded country estates on which monumental country houses, manors and even a medieval castle have defined the landscape for centuries. Noble families and wealthy dignitaries enjoyed themselves in the mostly English landscape parks with impressive beech avenues, hedges, courtyards, parks and garden ponds. The stately forecourts of the manors and country estates alternate with a cultural landscape on which the farmers from the area have been growing their crops and keeping their livestock for centuries. Here you will mainly find peace, space and a wonderful variety of fields, grasslands, watercourses, forests and hedgerows.
