Northwest Veluwe
Cycling through rugged nature with dark forests, colorful heathlands, shifting sands, and hidden estates.

The Landscape
Northwest Veluwe is a region that stretches inland from the shores of Lake Veluwe all the way to the Royal Crown Estate Het Loo. Here, you literally cycle from high to low. Starting in the wooded areas around Nunspeet, Ermelo, and Harderwijk, the landscape gently slopes down toward the lower edges of the Veluwe, where it opens up and becomes more expansive. You’ll pass through flower-filled meadows, tree-lined fields, and long stretches of farmland. A little further west lies Lake Veluwe, where the stillness of the water, the rustling reeds, and the cheerful chorus of birds invite you to pause, breathe deeply, and unwind.
South of the A28, a whole different world unfolds. Vast forests and sweeping heathlands form a green sanctuary where nature reveals itself in its most rugged and unspoiled form. In the wide sand drifts, temperatures can swing by as much as forty degrees between day and night. Tucked away in the woods are centuries-old estates, with quiet ponds, ancient orchards, and the occasional teahouse or weathered ruin that has stood the test of time. Historic farmsteads, winding country lanes, and colorful fields add to the charm of the landscape. Crystal-clear streams weave through the scenery and, together with the fragrant pine forests, create a nature experience you won’t soon forget.
