Campine and Eight Beatitudes
Cycling in a diverse landscape with extensive forests, expansive heathlands, peat bogs, marshes, fields, and meadows.

The Landscape
The Campine was for centuries a rugged and inhospitable area that became a breeding ground for mythical tales about goat riders and gnomes. Today, it features a varied landscape with charming villages, farmlands, and forests. Quiet country roads alongside fields and meadows extend into the endless woods and expansive heathlands. However, swamps and remnants of peat bogs still capture the imagination.
The Eight Beatitudes (Dutch: Acht Zaligheden) refers to a cluster of eight villages in the Brabant Campine. Today, it is an honorary title, although it was originally a derogatory term for a few poor villages. The landscape consists of a harmonious mix of nature and agriculture, characterized by a tranquil, rural atmosphere and the distinctive charm of traditional Brabant village life.
