Twenterand and Vecht Valley
Cycling through a rural landscape of ancient forests, historic farms, moorlands, green meadows, wide arable fields, and wetlands.

The Landscape
Cycle through the varied landscapes of Northwest Overijssel, where the distinctive regions of Twente, Salland, and the Vecht Valley meet in a seamless embrace. Here, the land itself tells ancient tales, shaped more than a hundred thousand years ago, these soils are silent witnesses to a rich geological history still etched into the contours of the landscape.
The route takes you through the expansive raised bogs of the Engbertsdijkvenen. From there, you gradually ascend to the higher sandy grounds, where winding paths lead you through gently rolling meadows, tree-lined hedgerows, and authentic Saxon farms with their distinctive timber frames. Along the way, a small-scale landscape of stately farmsteads, fields, heathlands, and ancient embankments unfolds, giving the land a timeless structure. The journey concludes in a wide river valley, where you're treated to panoramic views over the floodplains and the gently babbling waters of the Vecht.
