Cycling Route Twenterand and Vecht Valley
Cycle through a varied rural landscape of ancient forests, historic farmhouses, heathlands, grasslands, farmlands and wetlands, from the Engbertsdijksvenen to the open Vecht Valley.
The Landscape
Cycle through the diverse landscape of Northwest Overijssel, where Twente, Salland, and the Vecht valley meet in a natural way. Ancient sandy grounds, wet peat remnants, and river landscapes create a varied setting in which the region's geological history remains clearly visible.
The route takes you past the vast raised bog landscape of the Engbertsdijksvenen before gradually climbing towards higher sandy grounds with winding roads. You cycle through a small scale landscape of enclosed farmlands, hedgerows, fields, heathlands, and Saxon farmhouses, before ending in the open river landscape of the Vecht with broad floodplains and peaceful panoramic views.
