The Landscape
This cycling route takes you through a beautiful landscape that is marked by history. 150,000 years ago, glaciers formed gently sloping hills that were later covered with extensive forests and moors. Together with shifting sands, fens and pastures they form today's landscape. But the history of the area does not stop here. Nature and cultural history have constantly gone hand in hand here. Prehistoric burial mounds, dolmens, war monuments and the Colonies of Benevolence are still visible traces of a memorable past. Old Saxon farms, monumental buildings, cozy villages and quiet country roads complete the typical scenery in Drenthe.
