Stedendriehoek and IJssel Valley
Cycling through an idyllic dike landscape with stately country estates, grassy fields, river forelands, and gently rolling farmland bordered by hawthorn hedges and trees.

The Landscape
Between the cities of Apeldoorn, Deventer and Zutphen lies a diverse and characterful region: the Stedendriehoek. You'll find vibrant Hanseatic towns, wide-open grasslands, wild river forelands, and stately country estates. The landscape is dotted with small-scale farms, framed by hawthorn hedges and tree-lined paths, giving the area a charming, rural feel. Surrounding nature areas like the Veluwe, the IJssel Valley and the Achterhoek offer endless opportunities for walking and cycling.
Where the Veluwe meets the meandering River IJssel, you'll find a varied and intimate landscape of polders, river forelands, dikes, oxbow lakes, and historic estates. For centuries, people and river have coexisted here, sometimes in harmony, sometimes battling against the water. Dikes, mounds, farms, and manor houses bear witness to a rich history of trade, floods, and resilience. The result is a unique and idyllic dike landscape, shaped by time.
